We were lucky to be eating a late lunch, so there was no wait to be seated, yay! Yum! So sorry, I ate my food so fast and forgot to take a pic! Had the BBQ Cheeseburger (regular) and it was delish! (Deluxe would have included onion and tomato, so I passed on that; and the Double Patty would have been ginormous.) My friends had the fried saimin, mixed plate (teri beef + hamburger steak), and hamburger steak. Devoured it all. I asked how the gravy was, and their response was, they don't skimp on taste or the serving. (As in, some places aren't as generous with the all important gravy!) Also of serious note-the service is so pleasant and downright caring! Got checked on more than once, including water refills. And, when they thought they'd taken too long to take our order, they were so apologetic. And another thing-everyone had a genuine smile. For real. Restroom is through the red door and is small but clean. If you are an ASB customer, you get an extra $10 of your bill! (Not sure how long this promotion lasts.) OMG what a pleasant surprise!!!

We of course had to come here after reading about the best burger in the nation. It seems as if other folks had the same idea since the wait for just take out was going to be an hour. We instead decided to eat in, that wait was about 20 minutes. This mom and pop joint has a great homey ambiance. Everyone is super friendly and it makes you feel good eating here. The burger is good, it's tender. It's reminiscent of meatloaf or a meatball beef patty. Now would I say best burger ever? Probably not. The bun was a little mid and the type of patty wouldn't be what I expect for a quality burger but this is expected for the price. I still quite enjoyed it and it's definitely worth trying. It might be up your alley. What I do recommend is the flavorful saimin and the beef skewers. Those two items together. The saimin is a taste of nostalgia and warm & comforting. The beef skewers are tasty. Definitely give them a try if you haven't.

Yelp ranked Shige's burger as #1 in the US in 2024, and while I think burgers are entirely subjective, this is in fact a REALLY solid burger. It was so tender and flavorful, with the perfect sear on the outside. It almost reminded us of meatloaf, due to the texture and the flavor. It is simple, it is inexpensive, it is great. The entire menu is so reasonably priced that our lunch for 4 came in under $40. That feels unheard of, in Hawaii or anywhere else in the US at this point. The "small" Saimin was still a very large bowl of soup, just as flavorful as the burger, and only $8.45. The Loco Moco was piled high in a bowl for a mere $10. Service was SO friendly, and this will certainly be a repeat spot for us. There isn't a ton of parking, but people are always coming and going. We had a short wait a little after noon on a Friday, but things move pretty quickly. All worth it for this wonderful food for what feels like a steal!

There's always a feeling of comfort and warmth at Shige's. My friend and I went after not being there in awhile and yup, still just as ono as it has always been! I often get the loco moco but when at Shige's- gotta get the saimin and the cheeseburger deluxe! Prices are awesome, customer service is even better. They are so kind and helpful. You walk out feeling good not just because you're well fed, but because of the people. A Wahiawa staple, a must try if you haven't tried. I'm ready to go back! (Once I don't feel so stuffed!) There is plenty of parking available as well. They can get busy but most people eat and go so you can get a table quickly.

Simple and great place for saimin. It was the first time I tried the curry saimin and it was delicious. This place has been famous lately for their cheeseburger. We ordered one to try and it was good but nothing mind blowing. If you visit Shige, try their saimin !

During my trip, I had to visit the spot that claims to have the best burger in the country--Shige's Saimin Stand. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth a visit, but be prepared for crowds, as this place gets busy due to its popularity. While their menu has wide variety of dishes, including noodles, soups, and sandwiches, I had one mission: to try the burger that's been crowned the best in the nation. I ordered their famous burger and chilled outside for a short wait, which wasn't bad considering the buzz around this place. Now, let's talk about the burger. It's a solid, tasty burger that reminds me of family BBQ cookouts. The patty had a nice, flame-grilled flavor, the veggies were fresh and generously portioned, and the bun was soft and perfectly pillowy. While it's a good burger--above average for sure--I wouldn't say it's the best in the country. That said, I appreciated the local vibe of Shige's Saimin Stand, and I'd definitely be interested in coming back to explore more of their menu. Overall, it's not a bad stop, and I'm happy I had the chance to check it out for myself.

Shige's Saimin Stand is a super popular spot for their saimin, but they were recently voted in having the best burger in the U.S. (yes, including the mainland) - We came here for an early dinner, and there was already a long line - this is a first-come, first-serve type of a situation in which you write your name and number in your party on a notepad right by the entrance, and just wait until you are called. Their menu is pretty straightforward, offering saimin and noodle dishes as well as burgers/sandwiches. We ordered: +the Saimin - garnished with Spam, char siu, egg, green onions, and fish cake +the Cheeseburger Deluxe - which came with ketchup, mayo, lettuce, onions, and tomatoes Make sure you request extra hot mustard to add to your saimin broth; noodles were good, but the broth was just chicken stock and tasted thin. Adding the hot mustard did help a bit. The Cheeseburger Deluxe was my favorite - even though it was a simple burger, the beef patty was thick, juicy, and well-seasoned; the toppings were all fresh, and I wished we had ordered a few more of these! Service was pretty friendly and efficient. There is a small shared strip plaza lot to park your car. +first-come, first-serve process +Cheeseburger Deluxe +request the hot mustard +friendly & efficient staff

I'm baaaack!!! We love love this place!! We'll drive from the Windward side of the island to have lunch here. The staff is so nice and the food is great! I love the homie atmosphere with the old pictures on the wall. Ask to see their machine which they make their own noodles with. This place is legit, ono and everything above. Check it out for yourself or you can call and place a takeout order.

Sometimes simple is everything! After an afternoon of fishing and watching the sunset on the north shore of Oahu, we needed a place to eat and Shige's it was. I've never tried their food, but I heard that their burgers were number one in the nation? My brothers, knowing that there definitely will be a long wait at the restaurant, suggested we called in to do a take out order and so we did. After finding their number on yelp, we tried calling and beep beep beep, busy tone. After about 3-5 minutes of calling on three different phones, we finally were able to place an order. The person on the phone was super friendly and informed us that it would take 45 minutes to one hour for take out and being that we were still at the north shore, we said ok, knowing it'd take us at least 20 minutes to drive up to Wahiawa. Once in Wahiawa, we proceeded to the restaurant and no parking! The restaurant is located on a very busy side of town and the parking lot is shared with other popular restaurants making it hard to find parking. Side note: the parking is also a one way drive way so no turning back. After the second time going around, I decided to get out and wait while my brothers try to find parking. They eventually found street parking and just waited for me. There was a long line waiting to dine in and I could over hear some of the other customers informing new customers coming in line that the wait is about an hour wait. If you ordered takeout, there is a separate door where you are able to pay and pick up your food. When your paying for your take out, there's really not much room for multiple people as there's a table flushed close to the door good enough for maybe two customers, but once you pay, they make you wait outside to be called once your food is ready. Once we got our food, we drove home to eat it as it was already dark out and didn't want to eat on the side of the road. Once we got home, I finally was able to try the best burger in the nation and in my opinion, I'd give it a 8/10. The patty was pretty thick and the bun was perfectly toasted. I didn't get a deluxe but the plain burger did have lettuce and it was smothered with their sauce. This burger reminds me of a burger I grew up eating on Lana'i from a place called Tanigawa's. The only difference was their sauce and if Tanigawa's was still open, I feel like their burgers would be number one in the nation. I also tried their friend noodles and it was good! I like that their make their noodles fresh in house and when you eat it, it still has that springy chewy bite that I like whenever I eat friend noodles. It wasn't oily at all like some other places. The only minor thing that I noticed was that it didn't have as much fixings of spam, char siu and green onions. Not sure if it's extra for add ons. All in all, this place is a really solid spot. Did I mentioned their prices are very budget friendly! Don't have to break the bank to eat bomb burgers and fried noodles. I do one day want to dine in, but not sure how I feel about waiting an hour plus in line. I'd probably go on their slow times, if they even have one!
